A Fly at a Time

In my film “what’s 2+3?” I talk about how going to the World Games in 2003 was a real eye opener to me.  It was the first time I had been with so many other people with ties to the special-needs community.  At one point in the film I say that being there was like being part of a giant support group.  More of the same happened in Athens, though this time it wasn’t as big a surprise to me.  We’ve met lots of people from all over the world and each has his own unique story to share.

One of the goals of this website is to get as many different voices and perspectives as possible, to create a place where people can share information, ask questions to the community and get answers that can help them and their families.  We want to take this global support group we created in Athens to the web and beyond, and to make real impact on people’s lives.

I really hope that you the reader will post comments, upload your own video story and start building a community that exists beyond the World Games. I hope too that as you view the stories we’ve captured so far you’ll be as captivated and moved as we are. You’ll note that some of the stories are tinged with pain; others are full of joy. To all I’d like to express my gratitude for trusting us enough to be vulnerable for the camera. It was a leap of faith for them, our Fly on a Wall pioneers.

In the coming days we are going to focus on family stories.  We have shot and edited many short pieces of unique families. We decided we will post one batch at a time, and they will live on our home page until we upload another family’s story, after which each batch will reside on the Videos page and on the flyonawall YouTube channel http://www.youtube.com/flyonawallorg. Soon we’ll be creating categories in order to make your search even easier. Please stay tuned and check back for these improvements, and as always, thanks to all of you for caring.
